Cape~Heidelberg Unseminars in Bioinformatics (FREE PIZZA!)
When: Wednesday, 1 October 2014 @17h30 (pizza) and @18h30 (CUB start)
After an array of pizza, we started CUB#4 with a short introduction on what the night would entail. Intercontinental networking with HUBers, and another opportunity to strengthen the ties between CUBers.
A couple of glasses of wine kept the participants busy while the tech savvy organisers scurried amongst laptops to ensure the environment promoted effortless scientific romances. After a hesitant start, we soon found that it was harder to call a time-out than it was to encourage the “hi my name is” ice-breaking interaction.
The feedback last night was overwhelmingly positive, but if there are non-wine induced suggestions, we would love to learn from your individual encounters. Please add comments on your speed dating experience!
The show and tell became a clustering of minds across the MAC club, some around the pool table, some around the bar, and others on their laptops going through code on the big screen. The CUB-HUB video-interaction lead to general but interesting discussions on programming languages and ideas on future collaborative projects.
Despite the technical difficulties (which were tested before the event and shown to work well – typical fate!) we learnt a great deal from the experience. If there are any CUBers who would be interested in a CUB#4 feedback session and brainstorming for CUB#5, just add a comment below and we will create a communication thread.
Thank you to the HUB organisers and to the CUB enthusiasts, we are so grateful for the continued support and are looking forward to successful future collaborations.
And thank you to everyone who attended, a truly international [scientific] affair.
If you would like to get in touch with anyone at the HUB hub, join the CUB and HUB linkedIn groups:
